Carl Bucher spent the first twenty years
of his work experimenting. He was successful with his experiments,
his works were purchased by collectors and collections, and he could
have been satisfied with each individual experiment.
But he could not stop at any of the levels of achievementhe had
reached, instead he had to explore new avenues in the full consciousness
of not having reached and found what is truly his. Within a decade
one can trace a route towards concrete condensation, from his early
atmospheric pictures via those graffiti reminiscent of prehistoric
cave drawings, the spiral pictures and the carved waggons right
up to the hovering landings. He felt the urge to create larger,
more compact forms, from the oil painting to the flat, and later
on, to the low relief that is set off against a back-drop in staggered
layers, in order to arrive eventually at a full-bodied structure
which presents itself in space. |
