Carl Bucher
Painting

"It could also be quite different" could be the motto of many of Bucher's pictures.

He trusts neither himself nor what he sees, and it is only on this (basis) that he affords himself and us joy and pleasure in dealing with seemingly simple signs, forms and materials. He confronts us in nearly inexhaustible variations with paradoxical structures: softness turns out, on contact,to be hard, the simple turns out, upon reflection, to be rather complex.

What we aim to seize, and what seizes us, must be graspedjnew.

Nothing less is what Bucher is after.
